HOW TO APPLY CONCEALER

Concealer is one of the most essential items in any makeup collection, providing quick and easy coverage whenever you need it. When it comes to dark blemishes, circles, and dark spots, it’s an absolute savior. But even the make-up-bag basics require a little skill and know-how to ensure you’re getting the most out of them. Here are our top tips on how to use concealer, whether you’re going for the no-makeup makeup look, or full blown glam.

Preparation is key!

First things first, make sure you’ve got the best foundation to work with (and we don’t just mean literal foundation!). Preparing your skin properly is a great way to ensure your concealer goes on smoothly, and a primer can help minimize the appearance of pores and control excess shine.

It’s vital to choose a primer that’s suited to your specific skin type. Ideal for oily skin, our Prep & Matte Mattifying Make Up Primer is designed to give you long-lasting results and boasts a lightweight texture that will keep you feeling fresh. Alternatively, if you struggle with particularly dry or dehydrated skin, try our Prep-Hydrate-Illuminating Make Up Primer 24H Hydration. It’s designed to give you 24-hour hydration, soothing and softening the skin.

For days when you’re on the go, our Teint Idole Ultra Wear Blur & Go Primer Stick is a super convenient choice, and a veritable handbag essential! A single swipe helps even out your complexion, giving you a smooth surface to start applying your concealer to.

Where to put concealer

Concealer has multiple uses, from concealing blemishes to contouring. So, it stands to reason that where to put concealer will depend on what overall effect you want to create. Our Teint Idole Ultra Wear All Over Concealer acts as a multi-tasking concealer, offering full coverage with up to 24-hours hydration for a comfortable complexion.

If you want to brighten and illuminate your skin, apply at choice positions around your face. Dab between your eyebrows, at your cupid’s bow (the curve at the centre of your upper lip), under your eyes and each side of the bridge of your nose, nostrils and chin. Blend gently to complete the look.

If you’re covering up blemishes, start at the middle and blend outwards for more natural cover-up.

You can also use concealer to reduce the appearance of dark circles under your eyes. If you’re wondering where to apply concealer under your eyes, simply create a downturned triangle shape and blend gently to enhance your natural features and reduce the appearance of tiredness.

Applying concealer with a beauty sponge

Once you know where you need to apply your concealer, the next question is how you get it there! Despite what you might have heard, there’s no one right method when it comes to how to apply concealer. There are a range of different application techniques, and we’ll walk you through each one (sponge, brush, and fingers), starting with applying concealer with a makeup sponge.

Start by picking out your concealer of choice. We recommend the Teint Idole Ultra Wear All Over Concealer, which contains skin-loving ingredients, such as hydrating glycerin, for breathable and comfortable coverage – the perfect blend between skincare and makeup. Dot it onto your skin and blend with a damp sponge, applying in a stippling motion (also known as a dotting motion) rather than a rubbing motion. Dampening the sponge will stop it from soaking up your makeup as you’re applying.

Applying concealer with a brush

If you prefer to apply your concealer with a brush, first make sure you’ve got the right tools. Choose a stippling brush and dot your concealer where you want it. Move the brush in large, circular motions to blend the concealer in.

Applying concealer with your fingers

There’s nothing wrong with applying your concealer with your fingers (in fact, the natural warmth can help with blending) but make sure you wash your hands thoroughly first to avoid transferring any bacteria to your face. Use your ring finger for a light touch around your delicate eye area and again, remember to dab or dot rather than rub.

How to use a concealer stick

A concealer stick is a great option for busy mornings or on-the-go touch-ups. Our Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation Stick is a great example of a multi-use product that doubles up as a concealer but works best as a quick and easy top-up foundation. Its silky texture gives you a smooth and seamless look that blends into your skin, so it’s perfect for creating a light and natural finish. Simply apply it directly to your face and blend with a brush, sponge, fingers, or the nifty brush at the end of your foundation stick using the directions above.

Does concealer go before or after foundation?

The jury is out on this one, but you could apply concealer before foundation if you’re trying to cover dark circles or need a thick layer to cover blemishes. Apply concealer after foundation if you’re trying to brighten, contour or need a lighter cover-up.

How to stop concealer from creasing

This one goes back to step one – skincare! Priming your skin to avoid fine lines and wrinkles prevents concealer from sitting in those creases. A hydrating serum, such as Advanced Genifique Serum, can help here thanks to its enriched formula with moisture-locking hyaluronic acid. For that tricky under-eye area, make sure you apply your concealer slightly away from the lash line and blend upwards, avoiding thick layers, and finish by blotting with a piece of tissue. Even better, our Teint Idole Ultra Wear All Over Concealer is formulated with skin-loving ingredients and has a built-in primer to help prevent under-eye creasing and caking!
