How To Do An Easy Makeup Look in 6 Steps
Whether you’re a contour pro or an absolute novice when it comes to your makeup, everyone loves a tip or two. And the easier, the better. Here are our favourite easy makeup tutorials and looks to brighten more than your day.
Whatever your skin type, from dry skin to oily skin, a good quality primer can help to prep it properly for your makeup application. Primers packed with nourishing ingredients make the best base for a radiant complexion.
The Lancôme 24H Priming Serum is enriched with hyaluronic acid and niacinamide to improve the appearance of skin texture over time. It helps to blur and minimise the look of pores while hydrating your skin to help extend the wear of your foundation.
There’s no end to complicated eye looks out there. If you’re more of a beginner than a makeup artist or simply want a look that doesn’t require spending 30 minutes on each eye, a soft smokey eye is our favourite easy makeup look for beginners.
Grab your eyeshadow palette – we love Hypnôse for its easy-to-blend, smudge-resistant shades – and apply a mid-tone shade all over your eyelids to create the base for your eye look. Next, blend a complementary darker shade, such as espresso, along your lower lash line to the outer corners of your eyes, blending it upwards and outwards. For definition, add eyeliner along your top and bottom lash lines, and finish with a coat of our best-selling mascara Lash Idole on both the top and underside of your lashes.
Choose the right foundation & concealer for your look
It’s not just colour that you need to consider when choosing your next foundation and concealer, your desired coverage and skin type are also important.
If you’re looking for lasting coverage that doesn’t need to be touched up throughout the day or would like to conceal acne or blemishes, choose a full-coverage foundation like our Teint Idole Ultra Wear. It’s enriched with Eternalsoft Polymer to help skin feel comfortable all day. Teint Idole Ultra Wear All Over Concealer also offers breathable, full-face coverage as well as targeted concealing with its tapered applicator. For a lighter feel, a buildable light to medium coverage can be layered to achieve your preferred finish.
Dewy liquid foundations work best on normal to dry skin types, while matte foundations help to control shine and excess oil and are more suitable for combination and oily skin types.
boosting serum including hyaluronic acid and mandelic acid to help your skin look smoother and more radiant.
When finding the right colour foundation and concealer, make sure to try out your potential shades in good natural lighting. If you have a warm skin tone (your veins will look green), choose a shade with a yellow undertone. If your skin tone is on the cool side with blue or purplish veins, choose a foundation with pink undertones.
Foundation brushes can also help to create a more even, precise finish. For a streak-free finish, use a tapered buffing brush in a stippling motion.
The Conceal & Correct concealer brush also has a tapered, flat shape to help apply cream and liquid formulas around the eye contour area, nose, lips and brows.
To add a warm, sun-kissed glow to your complexion and to create a more sculpted look, add bronzer to the high points of your face where the sun would naturally hit. Suck in your cheeks and create a shadow underneath your cheekbones by applying bronzer along the hollows of your cheeks and following the angle of your jawline with your brush – this dome-shaped brush allows you to control the coverage. You can also add bronzer to your jawline and hairline and the sides of your nose.
Apply your blusher next. Using an angled brush to sweep colour over the apple of your cheeks upwards.
No makeup tutorial is complete without setting spray or powder. They’re the answer to a long-lasting look. While both setting powders and setting sprays keep your makeup in place, they should be used for different situations.
As setting powders can help to absorb excess oil, they are great for those with oily or combination skin. Apply with a fluffy brush, concentrating on areas that are prone to shine, such as your T-Zone and sides of your nose.
Setting sprays not only offer waterproof staying power but a range of skin-loving ingredients, too. If you have dry skin, you may prefer a nourishing formula packed with hydrating botanicals or hyaluronic acid. Spritz your chosen spray about six inches from your face. Check out our Fix it Forget it spray for natural-looking and long-lasting results.
Just as setting spray keeps your foundation in place, lip liner prevents your lip colour from feathering and smudging. It’s the best supporting actor to the leading star that is your lipstick or lip gloss. If you’re a beginner when it comes to lip liner, take it slow and choose a shade that is close to your natural lip colour. Sharpen your pencil, slightly part your lips and use short strokes to trace your lip line. For long-lasting colour, fill in your lips with your liner before applying your lipstick or gloss. For extra precision and a more even, natural finish, apply your lip colour with a lip brush, too. Our creamy, waterproof lip liner comes with its own built-in brush.
