Everything you need to know when
preparing for your wedding
On your wedding day you shouldn’t be worrying about your make-up, so we’re here to help you pick the long-wear products worth investing in and top tips on how and when to apply them so that they stick around all day.
Pick the right moisturiser
The best way to start your make-up is with a fresh and moisturised face, and it’s important to pick the right one for your skin type as well as the occasion. If you have slightly oily skin your moisturiser should ideally be a light, liquid moisturiser such as Énergie De Vie, and for dry skin go for something rich and soothing such as Hydra Zen Anti-stress rich cream.
The skin around your eyes is fragile and sensitive, so needs a separate moisturiser to rest of your face. Génifique Eye Illuminating Serum refreshes your eyes with its cooling applicator – the perfect solution if you were too excited to sleep the night before!
Prime to perfection
To smooth over any fine lines or wrinkles and to help make sure that your foundation doesn’t slip throughout the day, apply a primer to the skin before your foundation. Make sure this is also right for your skin type, as primers for oily skin give a more matte effect (such as La Base Pro Pore Eraser) and ones for dry skin (like La Base Pro Hydraglow) will give you a fresh, glowing look that will help keep your foundation looking smooth and polished.
Create the perfect canvas
Concealer will help you to look well rested, and also helps to cover any imperfections and redness in the skin. Sets that include a colour corrector (like Effacernes Longue Tenue) and/or a setting powder help to keep the product in place.
Long-wear formulas are an important feature to look for in the foundation you choose for your wedding day, with natural coverage that isn’t too matte (which can sometimes make you look washed out in photos). We recommend picking an all-rounder foundation such as Ultra Wear foundation which has up to 24 hour wear, a blendable formula which can be built up for the coverage level you need and options of natural, warm or cool toned shades for the perfect skin tone fit. Make sure you set the foundation with a pressed or loose powder such as Poudre Majeur.
Top tip: Gently buff the leftover foundation on your brush into your ears, neck and décolleté for a consistent colour
Protect against teary eyes
Both your eyeliner and your mascara should be waterproof if you are looking to avoid smudging on the day, especially if you expect to shed few happy tears. For mascara, we recommend 2 -3 coats of Hypnôse Waterproof for a natural, defined and separated lash look, or Hypnôse Drama Waterproof a bolder, more voluminous lash look.
The type of eyeliner you choose should depend on your preference of application. Especially if you are applying your make-up yourself, you should choose a format that you are used to. This could either be a pencil (such as Crayon Khôl) or a liquid liner (such as Artliner or Grandiôse). For anything going on the waterline of your eyes, make sure you choose something waterproof such as Khôl Hypnôse Waterproof Eye Pencil.
As with your foundation, it’s important to start with a base. We use L'Absolu Rouge La Base to provide hydration and protection for lips before applying any colour. Next, line lips before applying lipstick (such as L'Absolu Rouge for a hydrating effect or Rouge in Love for up to 6 hour wear) or lip gloss. Try to pick a bright or warm lip colour (a rose shade is a subtle choice if you’re not a red lip girl) as neutral or pale colours can look washed out it photos.
