Party Makeup Look

Find out how to create this glamourous party makeup look in this tutorial by Uche Natori. Pair the purple smokey eye with a glossy nude lip or with a classic red lip. It’s up to you to decide!

The Base

Step 1: Primer

Step 1: Primer

I’m going to start with the La Base Pro primer. It fills in your pores and leaves your skin flawless, ready for your foundation. You don’t really need too much of this, heat the product up in your fingers and smooth it onto where you need it. I like to apply it onto the centre of my face and my forehead as I tend to get quite a bit of texture there.

I usually like to let my primer to sit in for 5 to 10 minutes. If you don’t have time that is absolutely fine, just let it sit for a couple of minutes so that it can sink into the skin so that it doesn't move around when you apply foundation.

Step 2: Foundation

Step 2: Foundation

For foundation, I’m using the Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation in shade 10.2. I used about half a pump on my forehead, half a pump on my chin half a pump on either cheek. Blend in the foundation with a brush. A little really does go a long way. It is a nice and buildable foundation, so if you want more of a sheer coverage you can obviously use less. If you want more of a medium to full coverage, you can use more.

Step 3: Concealer

Step 3: Concealer

For concealer, I’m going to use the Teint Idole Ultra Wear Camouflage Concealer in shade 10. It is a nice, super full coverage concealer. I’m going to pop that onto the back of my hand and apply it with a brush. This is quite a thick concealer so I don’t need too much of it.

For under the eye, I apply it in a downwards motion, making a triangle shape and concentrating the concealer towards the centre of my face. If you take the concealer any further out, it is going to make your face look rounder. The same principle applies when you put the concealer on the forehead, just put it right in the centre.

I am also taking the concealer onto the eyelids as a base for eyeshadow. Blend the concealer in with a makeup sponge as you go.

Step 4: Powder

Step 4: Powder

I am going to set the concealer with Belle De Teint in 03. It is slightly lighter so it’s going to add a nice brightening effect. I’m taking this under the eye, over the eyelid where we primed for eyeshadow and over any where that you have concealed.

Step 5: Contour

Step 5: Contour

I'm taking the Teint Idole Ultra Foundation Stick in 14 Brownie to contour. Contouring essentially is adding a bit more dimension back into the face. Choose a shade that is one or two shades darker than your foundation shade. I’m applying it just above the cheekbone so that when I blend it, it won’t go too far down. I’m also applying just along the temple and along my forehead. You can add a bit on the side of your nose and a little bit on your chin as well. Blend it out with your foundation brush. I love using foundation sticks to contour, as they are foundations, they blend easily and it looks more natural.

Going back with the Belle de Teint in 06, set the entire face with a powder brush. I’m skip the cheekbone area because I like that glow effect from the foundation and contour.

The Eyes

Step 6: Eyeshadow Base

Step 6: Eyeshadow Base

Moving on to eyes, take Belle de Teint in 06 and apply it in your crease as a transition shade. Don’t worry if it doesn’t show up on you, it’s there to help the other shadows blend in together.

Take a purple eyeshadow, I’m using Hypnôse Mono eyeshadow in Midnight Violet. Purple is a nice alternative to black eyeshadow because black eyeshadow can be difficult to blend. It’s nice to take a shade that is still quite dark but easier to work with. To begin with, you want to apply this onto your eyelid and keep it as low as possible. Once you have laid the colour down, you can start blending it out. When you’re happy with how it looks, you can start taking it slowly further up.

It is much easier to add colour than taking it away so they key with this look is to build, both in terms of intensity as well as where you want the colour to show. You will find that as you blend away, you will lose intensity and lose pigment and that is fine, just keep layering. This is why that transition shade is so important, it allows you to build and blend without the eyeshadow looking choppy.

Step 7: Add Intensity

Step 7: Add Intensity

Next, take the Hypnôse Palette in ST3 Terre d’Ivoire. We’re going to take the black in this palette and deepen the eye look. You want to pat that colour in, starting in the other corner of the eyes and then over the eyelid.

Step 8: Add Definition

Step 8: Add Definition

Take the Grandiôse Liner, we’re going to add a little bit of liner on the top lash line. This is quite a dark look so the liner helps bring everything together.

Going back in with the black eyeshadow in the Hypnôse Palette, take it along the outer corners of the lower lash line, then blend it out with the purple eyeshadow.

Step 9: Highlight Inner Corner

Step 9: Highlight Inner Corner

Taking the Hypnôse Palette, we’re going to add a bit of light to the inner corners. Take the lightest shade and apply it with a small brush. With a smokey eye, it is always nice to bring back a bit of brightness as the eyes can get lost in the darkness.

To finish the eyes, curl your lashes and apply the Monsieur Big mascara.

Step 10: Brows

Step 10: Brows

I’m going to fill in my eyebrows with Sourcils Gel. First, take a spoolie to brush through your eyebrows and then fill it in with Sourcils Gel. Then I’m going over with a brow gel, Sourcils Styler in 03.

The Lips

Look 1: Glossy Lip

Look 1: Glossy Nude Lip

The first lip option is a glossy nude lip. I am take the eyebrow pencil, Le Crayon Sourcils in 03 Brown to line my lips. Then I’m going over with L’Absolu Gloss Rôsy Plump and the L’Absolu Gloss Sheer in 222.

Look 2: Red Lip

Look 2: Matte Red Lip

The second lip option is a classic red lip. I’ll start with Le Lip Liner in 132 Caprice to line the lips. Then I’m taking a matte L’Absolu Rouge Lipstick in 197 Rouge Chérie. I am going to use the brush end of Le Lip Liner to apply this along the edges and then applying straight from the lipstick in the centre of the lips. Take your time with this, feel free to go back in the lip liner to tidy up the edges. I am going to finish off with a tiny bit of black liner, I’m using Le Crayon Sourcils in 04 Noir to add depth to my lips.
