Perfect Shoes, Now for
The perfect make-up
There are so many things to remember when planning for, and eventually on your wedding day, so to help you we have put together a consolidated list of top tips and “in the know” secrets.
Make time for yourself during the day.
Greeting people, making or listening to toasts, posing for photos – it can be tiring when you with other people and doing things constantly. Find a few minutes here and there throughout the day to take some time for yourself, grab a glass of water, reply your make-up or sneak a couple of quiet minutes with your newly betrothed to drink it all in.
What is too much and too little make-up?
Make-up is down to personal taste, but in general don’t go for something too experimental, but do wear some to avoid looking washed out in photos. Even if you aren’t usually a make-up user, a foundation to complement your skin tone, a natural colour of blush and some definition to your eyes go a long way to make you look your best in photographs.
Remember to eat something.
The excitement of the day might not make you feel like eating, but its important to not let your blood sugar drop too low. You need all the energy you can get for the dancing later on!
Your make-up should be just like you but on a really (really) great day.
Don’t use colours or techniques that you haven’t tried before, or you might not feel like yourself. Plus it could be a shock for the groom when you walk down the aisle! For inspiration on make-up looks, check out our step by steps here.
Pick make-up and skincare products that will work hard for you in the day.
Some of these are worth investing in! Look for long-wear foundation, lip products and hidden heros like primer (read more here).
Make an “emergency” kit
for anything that might go wrong on the day – it’s important to keep plasters, make-up for touch ups on hand. For our suggestions on exactly what to pack, read the full article here.
Have a plan to deal with oily or very dry skin. For oily skin, keep blotting papers in bathrooms in case your T-Zone needs some taming. Once you have blotted, you can also apply some translucent powder to soak up any residual oil. For dry skin, keep hydrated without ruining your make-up by applying a facial mist or patting some hydrating primer over skin.
Just go with it, relax and enjoy the day.
Try not to worry about things last minute; if the table setting aren’t completely flawless or one of the guests has had one too many celebratory glasses of champagne you’ll have a much better time if you can let it go and focus having a great time. Plus if something does go really wrong, you are surrounded by your nearest and dearest who are there to help and support you.
Pick a unique scent
that will always remind you of your special day. Months or years later, you will smell it again and it will bring back all of the memories from your special day. If you’re working to a bigger budget, you can create something unique and bespoke from many perfumeries, or alternatively just pick a scent that is right for you. We love La Vie est Belle for a feminine and floral scent.
When it’s all over, remember to thank all of the people that helped you on and in the lead up to the day (publicly if you feel comfortable) including the companies you hired, friends, parents and people who came through for you last minute. We know this sounds obvious but the day will go very quickly and in a bit of a whirlwind, so if you have special people you want to say an individual thank you to make sure to find the time.
